SUB-ENCLOSURE (B) OF ENCLOSURE NO. 2

Ip Pak Shau states I heard of a gambling house in Wa Lane at the end of last year. Mr. Osmund sent me last year to ask Wan Shing for money. Wan Shing promised to pay the money. I commenced to pay the money to Mr. Osmund at the beginning of this year. I gave him $1 a day for the house in Wa Lane.

On Thursday the 15th July, 1897, I went to the Office in which Mr. Osmund sits. Mr. Osmund arrived soon after wards. He asked me what evidence Wan Shing had given. I said he had confessed everything. I had heard he had done so. When I told Mr. Osmund that Wan Shing had confessed everything, Mr. Osmund said "You had better bolt". I said "I have no money, I cannot go". He said "I will give you $50". I said I would not take the money until I saw what happened. He said that if I ran away the blame would rest with me and he would be free from suspicion. I have a paper which shows the transactions between me and Osmund which I obtained from my desk on the 17th July 1897 (paper marked A). The paper is half a sheet of note paper - on one side it has an address:

Geo. E. Goodwin
36, Vanbrugh Park
Blackheath,
London.
